Our webcam is sometimes overwhelmed by a bright sun low in the sky
(and underwhelmed by low light conditions).
At first, the displayed image will show the sun with a black
spot in its middle. Next, the sun will be get lost within
a dark background. (See the image sequence links below.) The
camera recovers about three minutes after the sun slips below
the horizon. At that time the camera delivers classic sunset
colors and a rewarding webcam sunset experience.
Here's an actual captured sequence that spans 29 minutes in
April 2003: the view goes from ok,
to bad
to worse
to nice.
The moral of the story? If the screen appears black with a visible
sun such as in the bad
example from above, hang out for a bit. The colors might just
be moments away. |
